Common Diesel Engine Damage
Head Gasket Issues
Every diesel engine has what’s called a head gasket. Your head gasket separates your cylinder block from your cylinder head and is primarily responsible for allowing your engine to expand at different temperatures. It also allows for access to your engine’s internal mechanisms and components. If your engine overheats for a long time, this head gasket will likely blow. They’re resilient, but they can only hold up for so long. Common symptoms of head gasket issues include thick white exhaust smoke, fuel consumption issues, coolant consumption issues, and performance issues.
Fuel System Problems
Did you know that something as simple as an unchanged filter can mess up the functionality of your entire fuel system? An unchanged filter may let contaminants pass through it, which in turn may clog up your fuel injectors. Clogged fuel injectors won’t provide your combustion chamber with fuel, and your engine will fail to start. At Fleet Services Group, we offer fuel injection system repairs to fleets of all kinds. Large Peterbilt fleets, small HVAC service van fleets, and even heavy-duty construction vehicles are welcome!
EGR System Issues
A malfunctioning EGR system can have a huge impact on your diesel engine’s performance capabilities. If too much-cooled exhaust gas enters your combustion chamber, your combustion temperature will drop way too far, and your engine won’t perform right. You’ll likely notice stalling issues, idling issues hard starts, and may even go into limp mode. You’ll likely receive a check engine light and potentially a Malfunctioning Indicator Lamp (MIL).
